Course ExercisesCourse 3068 WorkbookThe sections listed in the table below are from the Migrating from RedHat to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 administration workbook. The workbook is designed to help you practice the skills associated with the Migrating from RedHat to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 course (3068) objectives. For an overview of the exercise content, we recommend viewing or downloading the Table of Contents to evaluate which exercises might be most valuable to you:
You can view and download the complete workbook as a single PDF file from the following:
Is the workbook available from another download site? You can also download the Course 3068 administration workbook from our Course 3068: Migrating from RedHat to Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 web site. For details on downloading files from the Novell web site, see Downloading the Course Files. Downloading the Course FilesThere are 3 files available for the Migrating from RedHat to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 course (3068) that you can download from the Course 3068: Migrating from RedHat to Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 web site:
The student manual and workbook are in PDF format and contain all the sections listed in the 3068 Workbook and Course Manual tables. If you plan on completing the exercises, you will need the workbook sections and the 3068 Course DVD. To download these files, do the following:
Because the 3068 Course DVD file (1750247_01a.iso) is about 1.1 GB, downloading the file can take from 15 - 20 minutes to as long as 2 or more hours (depending on your available Internect connection). Once you download the .iso file, you'll need a DVD-RW drive and a blank DVD disk to create the 3068 Course DVD (see Creating a DVD or CD from a .iso File). Creating a DVD or CD from a .iso FileMany Novell training courses require that you have a course DVD or set of CDs to set up and complete the available exercises. For example, Course 3068 requires that you have a 3068 Course DVD. You also need a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 installation DVD or CDs if you plan on completing the first exercise (Install SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10). When you download the DVDs or CDs, you normally download the DVD or CD as a .iso file. An .iso file is an exact image of the original DVD or CD that you can use with a DVD or CD drive that burns (writes) to a blank DVD or CD disk. However, burning the .iso file directly to a blank disk does not create a duplicate of the DVD or CD image. You need to have software installed on your computer that can take the .iso file, interpret the contents, and then burn the image on a blank disk. For example, Windows XP includes software that can take a .iso file and burn a CD or DVD for you. The software usually launches automatically when you insert a blank DVD or CD disk. You can also right-click the .iso file and select Open to access the correct software for burning the .iso file on a DVD or CD disk. Using VMware with the Course ExercisesVMware is virtualization software that lets you run an operating system in a window on your computer desktop. Just like running a word processor in a window on your desktop, you can run an operating system such as Windows or Linux in a window on your desktop. This is especially useful for course exercises. Instead of installing an operating system on a second computer to perform exercise tasks, you can perform the same tasks on your own computer using a virtual computer. On the 3068 Course DVD of this Novell Linux training kit, there are 2 different VMware virtual computers (also called images). Each virtual computer consists of several files that are compressed in ZIP files:
If you do not have VMware installed on your computer, read the Setup: Use the VMware Images guide for information on downloading, installing, and using VMware with the Course 3068 SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 virtual computer. Completing Exercise 1-1Exercise 1-1 guides you through installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (SLES 10) in an empty VMware virtual computer (vmware-blank.zip) available in the Setup directory on your 3068 Course DVD. You can also choose to skip Exercise 1-1 and use the VMware virtual computer with SLES 10 already installed (vmware-preinstalled.zip) for the rest of the exercises in the workbook. To install SLES 10 in Exercise 1-1, you'll need a SLES 10 installation DVD (referenced in the exercise) or the set of four SLES 10 installation CDs. You can download the installation media from the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 - Evaluation Download web site by doing the following:
Because of the size of the SLES 10 installation DVD, unless you have a fast Internet Connection and the appropriate web browser, we recommend downloading and burning the SLES 10 installation CDs. Using Installation CDs in Exercise 1-1. Exercise 1-1 assumes that you are using the SLES 10 installation DVD, which only requires that you insert the DVD once to complete the installation. If you are using the SLES 10 installation CDs, insert CD 1 instead, and then follow the online prompts during installation to insert the other CDs.
