Course Description

The Get Ready for Open Source: SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (Book 1) course (6200) provides a step-by-step introduction to SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED), which comes, out of the box, with a rich set of applications. The student workbook has lesson content for about 60 hours.

Students are motivated to learn Linux through a series of exercises that give them "hands on" experience with the desktop and encourage them to explore the Internet for answers to relevant questions. The learning experience is enhanced through the guidance of Geeko, the SLED mascot, giving them pointers and advice along the way.

  • Use Evolution (Email and Collaboration Software)
  • Use Gimp to Manipulate Images
  • Enable Multimedia (Sound Mixing, Music, and Movies) 

Prerequisite Knowledge

The course is designed for students who have no prior knowledge of Linux. Students are required to have only basic computer skills on an operating system (such as Windows). Knowledge of a desktop operating system is sufficient.
