Course Description

The Bridging NetWare Skills to Novell Open Enterprise Server for Linux web-based course introduces students familiar with NetWare to Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES). This course is designed to answer the question, “I know how to administer NetWare, but how do I do the same tasks on Open Enterprise Server?”

The course includes presentations (printed and online, streaming video) and exercises that take you through the process of transitioning NetWare skills to Open Enterprise Server for Linux equivalent tasks. You are presented with common tasks and skills in NetWare and learn how to accomplish the same tasks and skills on Linux. The topics covered include deployment, file storage, print and web services, administration, and configuration.

Course Objectives

This course teaches theory as well as practical application with exercises for Novell Open Enterprise Server for Linux on the following objectives (and topics):

  • Install Open Enterprise Server for Linux
  • Administer Linux
  • Manage the Network
  • Use Server Management Tools
  • Manage the File System
  • Create a Linux Training Plan

Course Audience

This is an introductory course for NetWare administrators who want to become familiar with Linux. The intended audience for this course includes Novell customers and partners who 1) have entry-level to mid-level network administration experience, and/or 2) want to implement Novell Open Enterprise Server Linux in an enterprise, government, or small business environment.

Prerequisite Knowledge

While much of this course can be valuable to anyone who wants to begin learning Linux, there are topics specific to networking that rely on experience as a network administrator or network engineer to fully understand the topic being presented.

Course Details

This course is designed to be used for self-study. The length of time it takes you to complete the course depends on your computer background and skill set. However, we estimate that it can take up to 2 hours per module, which includes listening to the presentation online and completing the exercises. With 10 modules available, you will need to set aside about 20 hours to complete the entire course.
