The Make the Switch: Novell's Guide to the Novell Linux Desktop course (3056) provides a step-by-step introduction to the Novell Linux Desktop which comes, out of the box, with a rich set of applications. After you complete this kit, you can decide for yourself if Linux is a valid alternative for you. If you decide to implement Linux, this kit provides the information you need to make the switch to Linux.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10. Novell Linux Desktop is a first-generation Linux desktop offered by Novell. The latest desktop software from Novell is SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 (SLED 10). While most of the skills you learn in Course 3056 can be used in SLED 10 (or any other Linux desktop distribution), if you would like to learn more about SLED 10, check out the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 web site for documentation, SLED 10 evaluation software, and a SLED 10 demonstration.

Course Audience and Prerequisite Knowledge
This course is for students who are familiar with Windows desktop systems. If you are already familiar with a different Linux distribution and want to have a closer look at the Novell Linux Desktop, simply skip the information you are already comfortable with and focus on how Novell Linux Desktop differs from your current desktop solution.
The course assumes that you are familiar with one or more Microsoft Windows desktop systems. You should be:
- Able to navigate the Microsoft Windows desktop
- Familiar with Microsoft Office
- Familiar with other common Windows applications
